  • What is LegalShield?

    LegalShield has been providing legal service plans to North American families for over 40 years. Our customers can access legal counsel and advice from qualified lawyers simply by calling a toll-free number. Many other benefits are included, but even at the most basic level our plans allow you to have peace of mind.

  • What law firm will provide my legal services?

    LegalShield has arranged for you to have access to an accomplished law firm available to handle your legal needs. Law firms have been screened, are monitored daily, and are ready to handle your legal matters with the care and concern you deserve. 

  • What is covered under a LegalShield Legal Plan?

    Access a variety of legal services including: advice on unlimited issues, attorney letters or calls made on your behalf, contract and document review (up to 15 pages each) and more. Review a plan contract for complete terms, coverage, amounts, conditions and exclusions.

  • Who is covered under my LegalShield Legal Plan Family Membership?

    The following are covered:

    • The member
    • The member’s spouse
    • Never-married dependent children of the member or member’s spouse who are under 26 and living at home
    • Children under age 18 for whom the member or member’s spouse is the legal guardian
    • Full-time never-married students under 26 years old if the student is a dependent of the member or member’s spouse
    • Any dependent child, regardless of age, who is incapable of sustaining employment because of mental or physical disability and who is chiefly dependent on the member or member’s spouse for support.

    Note: Trial Defense, where available, provides benefits for the member and/or the member’s spouse only. Be sure to check the specific contract in your state.

  • How do I gain access to my legal plan benefits?

    After you have signed up for a LegalShield legal plan, you will receive a welcome email. It will contain the instructions to login to your MyLegalShield member account and download the MyLegalShield mobile app. You will also receive your member ID card in the mail.

  • What is a Provider Law Firm?

    LegalShield has dedicated law firms that employ 1,900 attorneys in 50 states and four provinces in Canada, plus an additional 5,000 referral attorneys. The attorneys have been with their respective law firms for an average of 20 years and have a range of experience. This allows them to advise members through a variety of everyday legal issues such as family matters, estate planning, financial issues, consumer/credit protection, tax, real estate, benefits disputes and auto/driving issues.

  • How do I contact my Provider Law Firm?

    Members can call their law firm right from the MyLegalShield mobile app. (Apple and Android) Or you can call your law firm by dialing the toll-free number on the front of your membership card. A customer service representative will ask you what type of legal matter you have, verify your address and phone numbers (parties involved in your matter) and forward your information to the appropriate lawyer at your provider law firm.

  • Will I work with the same attorney for every legal matter?

    LegalShield takes the selection of our Provider Law Firms very seriously. While you may not work with the same attorney for every legal issue you have, you will work with the same Provider Law Firm, so you can be assured that you are receiving quality service with any of their attorneys.

  • What happens if my legal issue falls outside of my covered benefits?

    You may continue to use your Provider Attorney for legal situations that extend beyond plan coverage. The additional services are at least 25% off the law firm's standard hourly rates. Your Provider Attorney will let you know when the discount applies, and go over these fees with you.

  • How do I cancel my membership?

    To cancel your membership please send written notice to LegalShield and be sure to include your membership number and personal information via email to: [email protected] or send a letter to LegalShield, PO Box 2217, Ada, OK 74820. Your membership and payment remain active until written notice is received.

  • What is a legal service plan?

    For a recurring monthly or annual fee, legal service plans offer a variety of legal services from a network of attorneys for a low flat monthly rate. Prices and coverage vary depending on the plan you select.

  • How can I pay for my membership?

    • Monthly bank draft
    • Annual bank draft

  • What is LegalShield service area?

    LegalShield’s proprietary system of Provider Law Firms covers 50 states and 4 provinces in Canada. Plan coverage varies depending on the plan you select.

  • Does my membership cover immigration?

    A LegalShield membership provides consultation and a discount on other legal services related to immigration issues. Please contact your provider law firm to discuss your benefits and options

  • How do I choose a lawyer?

    With LegalShield, you don't have to. There's no stressing, no guessing. For assistance, members simply call the provider firm in their state or province and explain their situation. Their call will then be promptly returned by a local lawyer with experience in that particular area of law.

  • How can I save money with a LegalShield membership?

    The membership fee is significantly less than paying the standard hourly rate at a traditional law firm. Also, instead of ignoring a situation where you've been wronged, you can affordably and easily consult a lawyer.

  • How can LegalShield offer such a low monthly fee?

    They harness the power of collective buying. Thanks to the company's large membership base, LegalShield is able to collectively pool its low membership fees together to partner with law firms in their high-quality, proprietary network across the United States and Canada.

  • Why do I need a will?

    Everyone knows that they need a will. However, some people believe they can't afford one or that it's not a priority to keep it updated. LegalShield makes it easy and affordable to keep your estate planning up to date.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

    Your membership can be cancelled anytime by sending written notice to the Company. Please see your membership benefits for cancellation instructions specific to your plan, or you can call/email Member Services at 800-654-7757 or email [email protected] Important: Your membership and payment remain active until written notice is received.

  • How do I update my billing info?

    You can update your billing info by contacting Member Services at 1-800-654-7757 from 7am-7pm CST Monday through Friday, or online at mylegalshield.com. Just log in, go to Account Settings, and select the plan you’d like to update. Then scroll down to Member Payment Information and select Edit.

  • What is my membership number?

    Most LegalShield membership numbers start with 100 or 101 and are 11 digits long. Look for your number under Account Setting at mylegalshield.com, on the LegalShield mobile app, or by contacting Member Services at 1-800-654-7757 from 7am-7pm CST Monday through Friday.

  • How can I access my legal team in an emergency?

    Access after-hours legal consultation for covered legal emergencies such as an arrest or detainment, if you're seriously injured, or if you're served with a warrant. Just call 1-877-825-3797 to speak to a representative 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can also log in to the LegalShield Mobile App and select Emergency Legal Access to make your call.

  • How do I reinstate my membership?

    You may request reinstatement at any time by contacting your LegalShield Associate or Member Services at 1-800-654-7757. Member Services is available from 7 am – 7 pm CST Monday-Friday.
